When you are a writer, contests can help you get noticed. Some contests are fee based, but others you can enter at no cost to you. These contests allow a person to gain a fan base. When there is a fan base present the publishing companies will take notice. If there is feedback on the written work, then that makes it easier for the publisher to see how the work is received and if the person is worth publishing.
You have a chance to enter contests daily, if you search the internet looking for them. You can also sign up for newsletters that will send contest information to you for you to look over and pick out the ones you want to enter. Some contest may be based overseas, but most are here. There are some that may publish you in a magazine and others will be online. For instance, at this moment one of my stories is entered in a contest for pixelhose. They are a new website looking for new writers or stories that have yet to be published. The stories this website is looking for are fiction, non-fiction, travel, unwritten, wild-n-weird, and then everything else.
The story I entered is titled “My Death.” It is about an office romance gone bad, very bad. This contest will be for a short time period. A person can begin a wordpress account and like the story after you read it or just leave feedback through a Twitter or Facebook account. I would appreciate it and would love to see some feedback on the story. Thank you.
